Blackburn
Nursery is a local, family owned business established in 1936
by Tom and Ruth Blackburn as Blackburn Lawn Service. With a
borrowed rake, shovel and wheelbarrow they set out to become "the
name" in the lawn, garden, landscape, and maintenance business. |
Installing
landscape plantings, trimming trees and shrubs, mowing lawns,
and even installing one of the first irrigation systems in
this part of the Midwest, were the order of the day in that
first year. The business quickly became a great success.
In
early 1973 the ownership of the business changed to Jim and
Barbara Blackburn and the name changed to Blackburn Nursery
and Lawn Service which better reflected the direction of the
business.
Ever
changing and expanding, the business was purchased in 1995
by the current owners Suzy and Brett
Blackburn (a third generation owner and fourth generation
nurseryman). Growing and expanding every year, Blackburn's
has seen many changes over the years with a Full Service Nursery & Garden
Store (including thousands of annuals and perennials in greenhouses),
Landscape Design & Installation, Lawn Irrigation, Landscape
Lighting, Site Planning, Lawn Renovation, Retaining Walls and
much more.
Our current focus is the highest quality plant material from the
best growers, prompt, professional, courteous client service, and
an expanding Home and Garden Showplace Showroom.
In
late Spring 1999 we joined forces with Home and Garden Showplace
who's parent company is a Fortune 500 Company with over 5000
stores, 10,500 member owners, and over 2 Billion dollars in
purchasing power, These numbers give us the buying power to
offer product selection and prices that allow us to keep our
prices low and compete with the national chains, yet we retain
the high quality, helpful service and friendly, neighborly
approach to business our clients have come to expect.
We
moved to a new state of the art facility located on 33+ acres
in 2001 to lead our industry in northeast Kansas into the new
millennium with a much wider variety of merchandise, goods
and services.
If
you're looking for anything home, lawn, or garden related;chances
are if we don't have it, we can get it . If not, we can help
you find out where to buy it at an affordable price.
Thank You for your interest and patronage,
Brett
